However, mediation is prevalent throughout most civil cases and is used as a preliminary attempt to settle the case out of court.

You can elect to undergo mediation or it may be ordered by the court, either way, it is facilitated by an unbiased third party called a mediator and gives you an opportunity to take control over the outcome of your case.
