Hollywood divorces are something of great interest to our office. It is just amazing what you see when you get two superstars, two people who are on the big screen or two athletes, and they are going to go to war in divorce court.
Both of them lawyer-up, with 2, 3, 4, 5 lawyers. Many of them get multiple private investigators. Many times they will get forensics accountants, and they will literally spend millions and millions of dollars on the divorce, when all that money could have been put to a lot better use.
In a recent case that we had, where we knew the other side was going to be placing bugs on the phone of our client, we all told this very famous person, Do not talk on the phone. Do not engage in any activity in your house that has to do with this litigation. Do not give the other side any possible advantage.
But of course, when you have millions and millions of dollars and this type of fame, they generally don’t always listen to their experts. And in this case it was absolutely devastating to our case, because our client did talk about what he was going to do with money and assets, and how he was not going to pay child support, and how he was just basically going to try and not pay his fair share to the wife.
Of course once this was brought out, and they could not show the actual recordings, but they could actually prove that he had moved money from account A to account B, it turned out to be a very tough case, and just a glaring example of how sad it is when people don’t listen to experts.
