A Closer Look at the Siddur || Rabbi Jay Kelman
Observant Jews can spend more than an hour a day davening. But we tend to spend much less time focusing on what we say and why we say it. In this series we will explore the meaning of our tefillot; its sources, development, layers of meaning and other interesting items that will hopefully elevate our tefillot.

Rabbi Jay Kelman is the founder and director of Torah in Motion. In addition to his leadership role at TiM, Rabbi Kelman teaches Halacha and Rabbinics at the TanenbaumCommunity Hebrew Academy of Toronto. He received a BSc in accounting from Yeshiva University and Smicha from its affiliate, Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary and served as a pulpit rabbi in Toronto for 15 years. During that time he was a recipient of the Award for Rabbinic Leadership from the United Jewish Communities Federation of North America. Rabbi Kelman previously worked in the Tax Department of a large international accounting firm and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. For 15 years running his monthly column Money Matters was published in the Canadian Jewish News. He and his wife Ilana are the proud parents of six children.

Torah in Motion offers sophisticated yet accessible Jewish learning for a global Jewish community.
We believe the quest for knowledge and understanding is a Jewish heritage.
True understanding comes from seeing issues from various perspectives.
